API Keys & MCP Integration

Last updated: March 5, 2026

Automate your investor update workflow by connecting external tools to UpdatePilot via API keys and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Generating API Keys

  1. Go to Settings > Bot.
  2. Click Create API Key.
  3. Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Claude MCP", "Zapier Integration").
  4. Copy the key immediately — it won't be shown again.

API keys authenticate requests to the UpdatePilot API as a bot actor. All actions performed via API key are logged in your company's activity feed.

Using the API

Include your API key in the Authorization header:

Authorization: Bearer your-api-key-here

The API supports the same operations available in the app: creating updates, adding metrics, generating drafts, managing contacts, and sending updates.

MCP Integration

UpdatePilot supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets AI agents interact with your account directly.

Setup

  1. Generate an API key (see above).
  2. Configure your MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop) to connect to UpdatePilot's MCP server.
  3. The AI agent can then create updates, add metrics, generate drafts, and more — all through natural language.

Available MCP Tools

Tool Description
list_updatesList all updates for your company
get_updateGet details of a specific update
create_updateStart a new update for a period
add_metricAdd a metric to an update
add_highlightAdd a highlight bullet
add_lowlightAdd a challenge bullet
add_askAdd an ask bullet
generate_draftGenerate an AI draft from inputs
send_updateSend the update to recipients

Example Workflow

With an AI agent connected via MCP, you can say things like:

  • "Create my March 2026 investor update with MRR at $45k and 120 customers."
  • "Generate a draft for this month's update."
  • "Send the update to all contacts."

See the MCP automation blog post for a full walkthrough.

Revoking API Keys

Go to Settings > Bot and click the delete button next to any key to revoke it immediately. Revoked keys can no longer authenticate API requests.
